Applications of homogenization and optimal control to eigenoscillations of leaky optical microresonators

It is planned to review briefly mathematical studies of the nonselfadjoint spectral optimization for electromagnetic, acoustic, and quantum wave equations and to compare them with the state of art in the applied physics field of high-Q optical cavities. Connections with random resonances, homogenization, and the unique continuation property will be discussed following two recent joint papers with Matthias Eller.
If time permits, we consider also the computation of TEM-resonances of minimal decay in 1-D photonic crystals with the use of the optimal control approach that was developed jointly with Herbert Koch and Ievgen Verbytskyi.
